When you go to a Korean Restaurant where they have table side grilling, lettuce is served along with the meats.  In addition to Galbi (Korean Barbecue Beef Short Ribs) and Bulgogi (Korean Barbecue Beef), pork belly is another popular meat choice.  Accompanying the lettuce is SamJang and thinly sliced green onions.  The meat is wrapped in a leaf of lettuce topped with green onions and a dollop of the sauce.  The best way to eat is to prepare the wrap at table side using the cooked meat right off the grill.

My Very Special SamJang

    Like no other, this is my very special recipe.

Green Onion Condiment

Red and/or Green leaf lettuce

Side Vegetables (optional):

      Garland Chrysanthemum (edible Chrysanthemum leaves)

            Korean - Sookgat, Japanese - Shingiku, Chinese - Tung Ho    

      Sweet asian peppers, cucumbers, carrots, perilla leaves

Green Onion Condiment

My Very Special SamJang - lettuce wrap sauce


Wash the lettuce and dry.  Wash and cut the vegetables where necessary.


In a large serving platter, arrange the lettuce, vegetables and green onion condiment.  Spoon SamJang in a pretty bowl.


Serve with grilled beef, pork or chicken.  For vegetarians, use grilled mushrooms instead of meats.

Not Just Rice

Dinner in a Pinch - Korean Lettuce Wrap with Rotisserie Chicken

Pick up a rotisserie chicken.  Make Rice.  While the rice is cooking, debone the chicken, wash the lettuce and make the SamJang.  Arrange the meat, lettuce, sauce on one serving platter.
